DO YOU THINK YOU SHOULD CORRECT EVERY SINGLE MISTAKE YOUR STUDENTS MAKE?
WHY?
WHAT´S THE BEST WAY TO CORRECT STUDENTS?

Students mistakes should be corrected as soon as they are made in order to let the students know about what’s wrong and what’s right.. If nobody correct their mistakes, they will never learn good English and also could get confused later

The best way to correct mistakes and errors

The teacher must take into account objective of an activity. If the objective is to develop accuracy, the correction is important, in this case self-correction or peer-correction. It helps to focus student’s attention and reduce the participation on the teacher, thereby encouraging students be independent and autonomy

On the other hand if the aim is to develop fluency, the correction may not be necessary, if the teacher interrupts students to correct them can be disruptive and disgusting. If there are a lot of errors and mistakes
the teacher can make a mental note to provide feedback after the activity.

Another way to show to students that errors and mistakes are natural part of process of learning is to use humor. We can give examples from our own experience because our own reactions during class influence our students level of comfort and they won’t be afraid of making mistakes and errors and they will study English with pleasure.

Do you think you should correct every single mistake your ss make?
I think that we have to correct them but not every single mistake.

Why?
Because if you correct every single mistake it can happen that maybe they won´t participate anymore and they also can feel frustrated. It´s important to be very careful the way we correct them.

What is the best way to correct your Ss mistakes and errors?
I first use self correction that it´s when the student realize himself, if the ss can´t do it I use pair correction it´s when I ask somebody to help and finally direct correction when the teacher gives the answer. Of course in a good way and with a nice attitude.

Do you think you should correct every single mistake your ss make?I think it is very important to correct children' mistakes but not all of them.

Why?Because sometimes they have to realize they are making a mistake and correct themselves, that will help them to remember next time, if we correct them all the time they will forget it, it has to be a meaningful correction in order to learn with timing but not immediately.

What is the best way to correct your Ss mistakes and errors?I think that depends on the activity and type of mistake they are doing, for example if it is written or spoken. If it is a written mistake we can correct it after they do the activity, and the students can help us to find their own mistakes, in a written evaluation maybe we can correct it and give it after so the students can see what was wrong, or they can selfevaluate. If it is spoken, sometimes they can correct themselves, or their classmates. If they don't see the mistake we can correct them after they finished expressing themselves, but if it is something really important correct in a good manner at the moment.

In my opinion teachers should correct mistakes is importat that students realize that they have the wrong information but nothing happends. In my opinion the point is WHEN and HOW, is important to take care with this simple aspects in speaking and reading activities: don´t interrupt the student is when they are striving to participate, try to omit the word NO. When you correct some writting activities don´t use color red to correct them, don´t cross the work of students because you are canceling them, use circles, maybe arrows and other signs that your creativity tell you. Remember that motivation is the most important aspect to learn; and also to correct ss, we need to train and work every single day.

1.-Do you think you should correct every single mistake your students make?
No, l don’t think so. We have to listen to and give them confidence.

2.- Why?
Because, If I correct them immediately they feel embarrassed and they will not participate. I correct them during the lesson. Mistakes are part of the experience.

3.- What is the best way to correct your students mistakes and errors?
When performing activities of writing and speaking. Readings, classic tales, songs, movies, practicing in pair work, group work. I walk around the class to monitor students’ understanding.

DO YOU THINK YOU SHOULD CORRECT EVERY SINGLE MISTAKE YOUR STUDENTS MAKE?
WHY?

They are young learners and most the time I correct their mistakes. It´s not necessary to correct each mistake. I’ve learned in this course that errors are part of the learning. They show us that learners are learning and that their internal mental processes are working on and experimenting with language.

WHAT´S THE BEST WAY TO CORRECT STUDENTS?

Teachers have to be very careful and not made our students feel bad instead of give them confidence.
The way that you can correct them in writing is making a circle around it and ask the Ss to check with their classmates. ( individually ). In speaking T. can predict the most common errors in pronunciation and write on the board and practice with them .

Yes of course , it's important correct mistakes since the beggining just there students learn a good English as said one of my classmates but you have to take care the way you correct them. I think it's better when you have a conversation with each one or when they are working in pairs or teams and not in front of all class because sometimes they could feel unconfident specially if their classmates laugh.

SS make mistakes and that´s inevitable.

Errors r part of the student´s own version of the language they r learning (interlanguage), and which is continually rehaped as they develop mastery. These errors can be similarto those made by children when learning their mother tongue. Errors and interlanguage r necessary to language learning.

Thus don´t let to fossilized errors on your students. Wink

DO YOU THINK YOU SHOULD CORRECT EVERY SINGLE MISTAKE YOUR STUDENTS MAKE?
No I don´t

WHY?
I think students learn from their mistakes, maybe it is important to tell the mistakes but in the end.
If we stop everything, they lose focus of what they are doing, plus they may fear or frustration to do it again

WHAT´S THE BEST WAY TO CORRECT STUDENTS?

I think the best way is with respect, kindness, the teacher must make the student feel important

Hi! this is Alejandra Alfaro Alonzo
Do you think you should correct every single mistake your Ss make?

I don´t think we have to make it that way, first od all, if the student is speaking we have to let him doing until the end.
Once he has finished we can make self-correction, if not we can make peer correction, because if we correct him at the time he makes the mistake, he can stop talking, he can feel ashamed or frustrated, and he could forget the idea of what he was talking about. Let mistakes at the end of the task, and teacher can ask Ss their opinion about what mistakes were made respecting their partner work and even we can make a game or a correction exercise.

What is the best way to correct students?

let them finish their participation don´t interrupt them and teacher can make correction in a friendly and respectful way, let them know that "we learn through mistakes," the same way we learned our mother tongue
we can make it with English, the most important is that they be able to speak and face their mistakes as part of learning. T asks Ss don´t laugh at their partners, it would better to give them a hand in order to improve their mistakes. But the best a teacher can do is to avoid mistakes at least as posssible.

HOW DO YOU DEAL WITH YOUR STUDENTS´S ERRORS? SAT Empty MISTAKES

Mensaje  Marissa Dom Jul 03, 2011 7:04 am

Part of my job as a teacher is to give my students the kind of feedback that will help them learn and grow. Of course, I want to do this in a way that encourages them to continue trying, and certainly not to hurt their feelings. I know that some students are more sensitive than others, so giving constructive criticism can be difficult. I always remember that I need to keep my words and have attitude positive, because the negative may only serve to bring down the student's self-esteem and give him a feeling of hopelessness. For example I said "Andrea, you made good effort here, but I think if you try …, it will work better next time." This way the child knows that I see the effort he or she made. I care that never embarrass a student in front of the class because I remember when a teacher made this to me and I felt so bad. I try to know my ss’ and their personalities as best I can in order to correct the ss in a good way.
Another kind of correction that I use is to give some examples; sometimes I use the eco or repetitions of the incorrect phrase. In writing I circle, correct in teams or they can do it to me, they can circle the mistakes. I asked to ss’ for helping and I evaluate the correct moment or the correction because I think that too much correction is likely to undermine confidence and dishearten students It may be argued that continual interruption by the teacher may destroy the purpose of the activity. Ideally, feedback and examples of any mistakes should be explored when the activity has finished, providing students with time and space to reflect on the success of classwork
I like this information that I read about this topic “In order for correction to be effective, it has to be used for the right reasons. Correction is not a form of punishment. Punishment is discipline. Correction is pointing out a way to change what was wrong and make it better next time. Don't chastise a student for doing something incorrect. Instead, as mentioned above, make it a positive experience for the student; something she can apply the next time she tries a similar action or activity. Save punishment for disruptive students, but not merely for correction.” “Correct the Work Not the Child Keep in mind that correcting a student's work or behavior is not you correcting the student. It is important that your student understands you are correcting his work, not who he is. Let your student know that you still like him, and he is a good student, but that you see a way he can improve on his work in the future

DO YOU THINK YOU SHOULD CORRECT EVERY SINGLE MISTAKE YOUR STUDENTS MAKE?
i THINK WE HAVE TO CORRECT MOST OF THEM EXACTLY AS SAME WE LEARN OUR OWN LANGUAGE.
WHY? BECAUSE THIS IS PART OF EVERY LEARNING PROCESS, AND TEACHERS HAVE TO PAY MORE ATTENTION
IF THEY ARE SLIPS, ERROS OR ATTEMPS TO CORRECT OUR SS PROPERLY
WHAT´S THE BEST WAY TO CORRECT STUDENTS?
WHEN THEY ARE PARTICIPATING WITH THEIR CLASSMATES ON THE BOARD MAYBE A VOLUNTEER AT THE END
CAN CORRECT THE MISTAKES THEY COULD FIND.
WHEN IS WRITTING, TEACHER CAN MAKE THE CORRECTIONS IN PERSONAL WAY, MAKING SOME MARKS TO CLARIFY THE MISTAKES TO THE STUDENT.
WHEN THEY ARE SPEAKING WE LET SS EXPLAIN AT MOST THEY WANT, AT THE TIME TEACHER IS TAKING NOTES ABOUT THEIR MISTAKES AND AT THE END TEACHER CAN GIVE SOME PHRASES OR COMENTARIES CORRECTING SS ´s MISTAKES.

No, I don't think so.

WHY?
Because when you correct them in every moment they don't want participate more, they lose their motivation.

WHAT´S THE BEST WAY TO CORRECT STUDENTS?
I think we have to correct only the part we are evaluating, for example if we are checking grammar we have pay attention just on that and not correct pronuntiantion or fluency. Maybe we can do it during the performance in nice way or at the end with the whole group without saying who make the mistake or one by one student giving them a constructive feedback.
